Pink lentils or Masoor Dal is a powerhouse of calcium, protein and iron. For the Indians, masoor dal has been a staple ingredient since time immemorial. These are relished when cooked with different seasonings to form a sumptuous curry. Pink lentil split is an exotic variety, popular among the Indians with its unusual taste and high nutrient index.
Different names
Indians commonly utter Masoor or Masur dal instead of split pulses. These are known as the pink lentil split by the South Asians. However, in certain regions like Karnataka, India, masoor dal is termed as ‘kempu togari bele’. Some may call it simply orange dahl.
Place of Origin
As mentioned earlier, pink lentil is quite common among the Indians who prefer consuming it either with Indian bread or with rice. Among them, ‘dal bhat’ is a common cuisine, frequently consumed by them.
